3 Days Unforgettable mount Meru Trekking

Experience unforgettable Mount Meru trekking, Tanzania's 2nd highest peak and an active stratovolcano with a crater featuring a rich volcanic landscape.

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Miriakamba Hut (Full Board)

Drive from the hotel in Arusha to Momela Gate. After a short registration at the gate, our walk begins with a full-armed ranger escorting us. Along the way, we can expect to see wild animals, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, and antelope. Elephants are often spotted along the route. Dinner and overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut.

Momela Gate to Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m.): 5-7 hours walking.

Day 2: Saddle Hut (Full Board)

Walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru. It’s a short day but a steep climb. The hike will take us slowly along the ridge for spectacular views of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone. After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, we can make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820 m.) for superb views just before sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3,500 m.): 3-5 hours walking.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to the Summit to Miriakamba Hut (Full Board)

We start early around 1:30 a.m. to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 m.) and then on to Cobra Point (4,350 m.). Reach the summit (4,566 m.) in time for sunrise, with a possibility of seeing Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater.

Take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to Momella Gate. A transfer will be waiting at Momella Gate to return to Arusha for an overnight stay at the hotel.

Saddle Hut to the Summit to Momella Gate: 12-14 hours walking.
